Antioxidant activity of corn seeds after thermal stress Ciência Rural
Marini,Patrícia; Bandeira,Juliana de Magalhães; Borba,Isabel Cristina Gouvea de; Martins,Andrea Bicca Noguez; Moraes,Dario Munt de; Amarante,Luciano do; Villela,Francisco Amaral.
The aim of this research was to analyze the effect of different temperatures on physiological quality and relate the responses with the antioxidant activity of three lots of corn seeds. The seeds from three lots were exposed for 24h at temperatures of 15, 25, 35 and 40°C and then evaluated for percentage, speed index and first germination count, as well as early growth and activity of antioxidant enzymes in the seedlings. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replications, with subsequent polynomial regression analysis. The results showed that the seeds from the three lots of corn exposed to temperatures of 15 and 40°C, were of better high physiological quality (vigor), which explains the low activity of enzymes of the antioxidant...

Green soybean seeds: effect on physiological quality Ciência Rural
Teixeira,Sheila Bigolin; Silva,Joseano Graciliano da; Meneguzzo,Michele Renata Revers; Martins,Andrea Bicca Noguez; Meneghello,Geri Eduardo; Tunes,Lilian Vanussa Madruga de.
ABSTRACT: The objective of this research was to assess the manner in which the presence of green soybean seeds affects their physiological quality. In this study, six lots of soybean seeds of cultivar 5958RSF IPRO with 0, 0, 7, 8, 16 and 18% of green seeds were examined. The tests done included the first germination count, germination, electrical conductivity, field emergence, accelerated aging, emergence speed index, Tetrazolium, length, dry mass and seedling growth curve. Results were tested employing the normality test and analysis of variance, and the means were compared by the Tukey test at 5% probability level, employing the Rbio statistical program. Growth data were analyzed by the nonlinear regression analytical method, using the SigmaPlot 12.0...

Seed germination and antioxidant enzyme activity in seedlings of diploid and tetraploid bahiagrass under water restriction Ciência Rural
Bortolin,Gabriel Streck; Salinas-Arcienega,Alfredo José; Galviz-Fajardo,Yutcelia Carolina; Amarante,Luciano do; Pedroso,Carlos Eduardo da Silva; Oliveira,João Carlos Pinto; Köpp,Mauricio Marini; Martins,Andrea Bicca Noguez; Tunes,Lilian Vanussa Madruga de.
ABSTRACT: The objective of the following research was to investigate the physiological responses of two bahiagrass genotypes (Paspalum notatum Flügge) submitted to water restriction, induced by polyethylene glycol (PEG6000), during seed germination. Seeds of cv. Pensacola (diploid) and Bagual ecotype (tetraploid) were placed on paper moistened with osmotic solutions at potentials of 0.0; -0.1; -0.2 and -0.3 MPa. Composed of two subsamples of 100 seeds and four experimental units per treatment, the germination test was conducted in a germination chamber under alternating temperatures of 30 °C (8 hours) and 20 °C (16 hours), with presence of light during the higher temperature. Final germination percentage and germination speed index of the seeds, as well as...
